Liverpool fans are laughing at a tweet posted before the 2018/2019 season that said Nacho Monreal was a better left-back than Andy Robertson.

The Gunners fan sent himself on a fruitless mission to try and understand why the Reds were doing so much better in the Premier League, and tried to compare squads in order to do so.

Out of all the match-ups created by that little exercise, the worst judged one by an absolute country mile was picking Monreal as a better option on the left flank than Robertson.

Robbo has been one of the best in his position in Europe, never mind the English top flight, while the Arsenal man is ageing and ended up missing 12 games because of a hamstring injury.

You can tell how things have deteriorated with the Gunners, who now feel as if they need to compare their squad to Leicester instead of Liverpool – who blew them out of the water during the previous campaign.

The Gunners know they can’t compete with the Reds and the might of Jurgen Klopp’s squad, especially after that incredible Premier League campaign and Champions League victory.

Monreal might be able to get in the squad, if he’s prepared to be Robertson’s understudy and step in when the Scot needs a rest or gets injured. But there’s no way the Spaniard would ever regularly start in front of Handy Andy.

In fact, how many of that Arsenal team could even get in the Liverpool side? None of the defence, that’s for sure. Liverpool have the best back five in the league, and one of the best attacks, and one of the best midfields. It’s tough going being a Gunners trying to make this side.

Their problems on the left hand side have meant that Kieran Tierney is a major target, the man who Robertson keeps out of the Scotland side. On the balance of it, it seems like they’d be the ones lucky to have him.
