Liverpool forward Divock Origi is a quadruple threat and that’s why he deserves his new contract.

The Guardian has reported that the Reds and Origi have finally complete negotiations on his long-term deal in a move that hasn’t pleased everyone within the game.

But the fact is the Belgian is a player who can dribble, finish, disrupt and recover the ball and that makes him perfect for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Origi is also becoming more versatile and had one of his best Premier League performances for 2018/2019 playing on the left when the Reds swatted aside Watford.

Using data from Smarter Scout, we’re able to see some of the attributes that make him an important back-up player to have – and this sheds a little bit of light on why Klopp was so keen to keep Origi around.

The forward is an excellent finisher and can boast a rating of 70/99 for that metric, which helps explain how he was able to have such a decisive impact in so many games.

Origi is also a strong dribbler (69/99), which aids his versatility – while his ability to disrupt (56/99) and recover (45/99) show that the Belgian is able to put pressure on opposition defences as part of the high-press system.

With a 42 rating for passing in the box and 37 for his link up play, there are definitely some areas for improvement within his game – but that’s only natural for a 24-year-old who is learning how to be more effective across the whole front line.

Numbers aren’t the only thing that make a player valuable or important, but in this case the Belgian’s attitude and desire compliment those well. The Guardian wrote how the backroom staff at Liverpool had been impressed with Origi’s attitude on the training field and this played a big part in the decision to open talks over his new deal.

All in all this looks like a wise decision from a Liverpool backroom team who don’t often get them wrong any more.
