Liverpool took on Tranmere Rovers in the first preseason friendly and easily put six goals past their city rivals.
One aspect of the Reds’ win should delight watching fans and that was Rhian Brewster, Curtis Jones and Bobby Duncan all getting on the score sheet.
Brewster netted two and seems set for first team involvement this season, while Jones looks fired up and ready to impress Jurgen Klopp for a second summer in a row.
After dominating down the age groups, Duncan was handed a chance to play in front of Klopp while Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah were unavailable and didn’t disappoint either – although you’d be really surprised if the young lad was handed his debut this season.

For all the talk about Brewster having real talent and the gaffer trusting him, you feel like this moment needed to happen for the rest of us to really sit up and take notice. 2018/2019 was horrible for the starlet but this could be the moment we all look back and realise his talent is real.
Between Divock Origi and Brewster there may be a fair burden at the start of the 2019/2020 season to step up and temporarily replace Mane, Firmino or Salah so they both need an excellent preseason so they can hit the ground running. Thankfully they have both done that.
Jones has been pushing Klopp for a while as well, and we know the German likes the youngster. Hopefully we can see him in action in a game that actually matters, although with Adam Lallana around the group perhaps that’ll have to wait until next year.
As for Duncan, the third member of the triple delight, he just needs to keep scoring in the U23s to make his claim for future first team involvement. That relationship with Paul Glatzel is nearly telepathic and beautiful to see, but both need to forge their own development path.
It’ll be interesting to see what chances are handed down in the next game, but keep your eyes peeled and get excited about the future.
