Stuart Pearce thinks Liverpool will beat Manchester City to the Premier League trophy for 2019/2020.

Psycho was speaking on talkSPORT when he tipped the Reds for the ultimate prize, despite the fact that Jurgen Klopp has made no senior signings this season.

But, Pearce reminded us all, he does have Joe Gomez fit for the start of the campaign and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ready to pick up where he left off before that awful injury sustained against AS Roma.

But then, he also said Liverpool would win the league last summer. With 98 points only being good enough for second place, you can forgive the hard-as-nails defender for getting that one so agonisingly wrong.

The fact that the Reds won the Champions League but missed out on the Premier League makes this trophy so important to Jurgen Klopp, who still appears untroubled by it all and has an air of confidence about him that must be inspiring.

Pearce thinks Liverpool deserved more than one trophy – even if it was their sixth European title. Losing Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge won’t be a loss to the Reds, said Pearce, and he’s right about that.

City have strengthened again but that’s mitigated by a few factors. One, they needed to sign Rodri from Atletico Madrid because of Fernandinho’s advancing age and their increasing dependence on the Brazilian – while Angelino was required because of Benjamin Mendy’s terrible injury record.

Vincent Kompany has also retired, which’ll leave a gap in the heart of defence and also create a leadership void that will need to be filled.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have a squad that’s sitting at an excellent age with only James Milner as the elder statesman. Klopp has also tied the best players to long term deals, which negates the need to spend big.

Divock Origi is a quadruple threat who deserves a new deal. dark. Next

Pearce has tipped the boys for a second season in a row, and if they can repeat that 98 points tally they’ll be in with a strong chance.
