Liverpool lost to Sevilla 2-1 in which left-back Yasser Larouci picked up an injury following a dreadful tackle, but will it change Jurgen Klopp’s plans?

Larouci limped off the field after Joris Gnagnon was shown a straight red card for his tackle on the 18-year-old in a move which may have negative consequences for Klopp.

The Academy graduate was playing his second preseason game of the American leg, in an indication that Klopp may be happy with using a combination of squad players to fill that back-up role to Andy Robertson.

Harry Wilson also picked up an injury to his jaw and eye, but should be okay for the start of the Premier League campaign.

Larouci was praised for how he handled Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, in which Klopp called the starlet ‘ an exceptional talent’ and said that the 18-year-old did ‘pretty well’  the whole night.

And if Larouci can help keep Sancho under wraps, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t  be in line for a few first team games in order to give Andy Robertson a swap out or come in for FA and League Cup fixtures.

It has been done before – Klopp sent Trent Alexander-Arnold straight into the side – and there is no reason the same can’t be done here if the manager trusts the youngster enough.

And if Klopp was planning on using the former Le Havre man fairly extensively during the first few games, while Adam Lewis was included on the bench and made an appearance for the second half.

Robertson was back in the squad and started, but only played 46 minutes as the gaffer eased him back into first team contention.

Klopp mentioned that it was too early to tell about Larouci’s injury and urged everyone to stay calm while more details emerge. Let’s hope he’s right and this doesn’t derail his plans too much.
