One keen-eyed Liverpool fan thinks he has spotted a clue that the Reds could be signing Lyon forward Maxwel Cornet from pictures on social media.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Liverpool have been virtually inactive in the transfer market this summer but one fan thinks he has spotted a surprise arrival at Anfield: Maxwel Cornet from Lyon.

The Ivory Coast international posted an Instagram story of himself in a Mercedes van today. Every ultra-transfer-obsessed Liverpool fan knows that is the make of van Liverpool use to ferry new signings to and from John Lennon airport.

The fan (@lucasjo90220451) has taken a screenshot of Maxwel Cornet and put it next to one of Andy Robertson on his signing day here. As he notes, the interiors of the vans are identical.

Tracking vans and private planes has been a personal hobby of a number of Liverpool fans in recent transfer windows. It started back in 2015 when fans were tracking Jurgen Klopp’s plane before he was announced as Liverpool manager.

While this rumor remains in the ‘highly speculative’ category there is a shred of other evidence to back it up.

Liverpool sent scouts to watch Lyon back in May (Mirror via LFC). Guess who scored two goals that day? Yes, a 22-year-old Ivorian who is now in a Mercedes van. Though hilariously they call him ‘Maxine’ in the article!

The presumption at the time was Liverpool were sending scouts to look at Memphis Depay, Houssem Aouar or even Nabil Fekir. Perhaps those scouting reports came back with big green ticks next to Maxwel Cornet’s name instead!
