Liverpool are in the midst of the shortest transfer saga ever as François Kamano is ‘set to sign’ for Monaco.

No sooner were the Reds linked with Kamano, via publications such as 90min.com, than French newspaper L’Équipe were publishing counter claims.

So that’s that, then.

The claims about the Liverpool deal began to circulate in the last few days, but Foot 224 journalist Amadou Makadji has now written that Monaco are ‘set to sign’ the Bordeaux forward.

Makadji added that any interest from the Reds would be extremely interesting to the 23-year-old, who now shares the same agent as Anfield stars Naby Keita and Sadio Mane.

Kamano would have been a fairly cut-price deal at £13.5 million – around a similar price to what the Reds paid for Xherdan Shaqiri after he was relegated with Stoke City.

The 23-year-old has 31 goals and 13 assists in 149 Ligue 1 appearances and can play anywhere across the front three – which would make him attractive to manager Jurgen Klopp, in theory.

So you can certainly see why the Guinea international might make headlines and be linked with a move to Merseyside, especially as he now has the same representation as two Liverpool stars.

But in terms of transfer sagas, this one looks like it could even be shorter than the non-existent Fabinho one – which was over before it even began.

With Shaqiri in the squad, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain able to play in the wide positions, Harry Wilson promised games, Rhian Brewster on the scene and Divock Origi given a new contract, is there even space for Kamano in the team?

Kamano scored 10 goals in 2018/2019 but only provided one assist, although with Klopp using his full-backs as providers that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

According to Smarter Scout, the Guinea international doesn’t have a great attacking rating and there’s often a large discount in output when players move from France to England, so maybe Liverpool have done the right thing after all.
