Liverpool could surprise fans by signing a left back before the transfer deadline according to the latest report in The Mirror.

Time is running out for Liverpool to make an addition to their outfield playing squad this summer but the latest report from The Mirror suggests they could add a left-back before the transfer window closes tomorrow.

The article is by Liam Prenderville, who writes on the paper’s website about why the club have not signed cover for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

While the club have cover for Roberto Firmino with Rhian Brewster and Divock Origi, the squad looks light of options to replace the wide duo. The news of Harry Wilson joining Bournemouth on loan for the season only increases the concern of a lack of cover in the squad.

In the article, Jurgen Klopp is quoted from an interview with Sky Sports by saying: “You should never do transfers because other clubs are doing transfers. That makes no sense, it’s not about that.”

He continued: “People think that players from other clubs, other countries, are better than the players we have here but without really having the proof, because those players haven’t played here, or whatever else.”

It seems obvious that the club will roll with what they have in attack, at least until January, which will be a big disappointment for fans. However, Prenderville highlights the left back position as one that could be strengthened before the transfer deadline:

“Liverpool could yet bring in cover for Andy Robertson in the left-back position following the departure of Alberto Moreno.”

It is a mystery who that new player could be after previously linked left backs have joined other clubs: Junior Firpo moving to Barcelona and Max Kruse moving to Fenerbahce.
