Liverpool will be an easier game for Arsenal this weekend in the Premier League according an interview with one cocky Gooner.

There are not many rivals who see Liverpool Football Club on the fixture list and think ‘that will be an easier one’. But that is exactly what one Arsenal player is saying ahead of the sides clash at Anfield on Saturday in the Premier League.

Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos was speaking to the Evening Standard and comparing this weekend’s matchup to the Gooners’ match with Burnley last week:

“It is a different game. Maybe it is more easy, because you don’t have to fight a lot – but they also play football.”

More easy? The European Champions at Anfield? Where you lost 5-1 last season? Easier than a home game against Burnley who finished 15th last year? Come on Papa, be serious. But he continues:

“If they are on good day and you are having a bad day, it is hard. In the end, we know that it is difficult and we respect Liverpool a lot. But I think the best is to go and play our style of game.”

Usually when you read grand statements like this before a big game you can easily attribute it to mind games. However, I think Papastathopoulos is serious, they really think it will be easier to defend against Liverpool than Burnley.

Arsenal fans will tell you that the side has struggled against physical ‘hoofball’ teams for over a decade. It used to be Sam Allardyce’s sides, now it is Burnley.

I understand how it will be different, but there is no way you can describe it as easier. The pressing that Jurgen Klopp’s sides are famous for leads to a torrid time for opposition teams in possession.

Plus the Reds have one of the most devastating attacks on the counter. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are rapid in both feet and mind.

Sokratis gave away a penalty at Anfield last year and put in a 2/10 performance as the Reds ran riot. Maybe he has amnesia? Up the Reds!
