We’re now entering the first international break of the season and 11 Liverpool players will be featuring for their national teams.
The Reds have started this season very well by winning the UEFA Super Cup and winning all of their Premier League matches so far. They are currently at the top of the table with 12 points, two ahead of Manchester City.
Many Liverpool players will be joining their respective national teams to feature in friendlies and the Euro qualifiers. These do not include Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane while Alisson is injured. Xherdan Shaqiri has made himself unavailable for Switzerland since he wants to focus on his club.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is in England’s squad for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo. He will be joined by Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Oxlade-Chamberlain who missed most of last season due to injury, could make his first appearance for England since March 2018.
Virgil van Dijk will lead the Netherlands in their qualifiers against Germany and Estonia. Georginio Wijnaldum is also in Ronald Koeman’s squad. Having lost their last match against Germany, the Oranje will be hoping to win these two games in order to return to the Top two of their group.
While we’re talking about national team captains, Andy Robertson is in Scotland’s team for two very tough qualifying matches against Belgium and Russia. Steve Clarke’s side are currently fourth in their group and will need to produce a couple of upsets if they are to qualify directly for their first Euros in nearly 25 years.
Divock Origi is in Belgium’s squad for their qualifiers against San Marino and Scotland. The 24-year-old might be considered for a start by Roberto Martinez.
Dejan Lovren hasn’t played a single game this season but he’s in Croatia’s squad for their international qualifiers against Slovakia and Azerbaijan, both being away games. The World Cup runners-up are currently third in their group and will hope to be in the Top two following their two qualifiers. It’ll be interesting to see whether Zlatko Dalic starts Lovren or prefers Augsburg’s Tin Jedvaj.
Fabinho’s fine performances for the Reds has earned him a place in Brazil’s international squad for their friendlies against Colombia and Peru. He last appeared for the Copa America winners in a friendly against Czech Republic in March.
Another Brazilian player who’ll featuring during the international break will be Roberto Firmino who became the first from his country to net 50 Premier League goals
