A host of Liverpool fans were urging Jamie Carragher to go in two-footed on Man City star Sergio Aguero during the Vincent Kompany testimonial last night.

A portion of Liverpool fans were urging ex-Red legend Jamie Carragher to tackle Sergio Aguero with two feet yesterday during the testimonial for Vincent Kompany.

The former Man City captain was having his showpiece send off – although he didn’t play due to injury – at the Etihad stadium.

The match was between a ‘Man City legends XI’ and a Premier League All Star XI. Surprisingly, Aguero started the game while Carragher lined up for the retired legends. As soon as the teams were announced many Reds had one thing in mind: Carra needs to injure him.

Whether or not those calls for a ‘two footed’ challenge were jokes (every joke has an element of truth) the importance of Aguero to Man City’s title bid is not in doubt.

Many fans were imagining the fury from rival fans if Carragher were to rule out the Argentinian for a significant period of time. Football twitter would have melted. Talk Sport phone-ins would have been carnage. It would have been hilarious to witness.

However the predicted injury did not occur. Perhaps fans failed to consider that Carragher – not the quickest, even at his peak – would have to catch him first!

James Milner was also touted to feature for the Man City side last night but he did not make an appearance and wasn’t even on the bench. Reds were delighted to see that their vice-captain ended up having a full two weeks rest for the international break.
