Liverpool fans are blaming transfer policy for Napoli defeat

Liverpool were beaten by Napoli in the Champions League defeat and some fans are laying blame at the club’s transfer policy this summer.
Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season as their defense of the Champions League title got off to a disappointing start, losing at Napoli last night. Some fans are pointing towards the club’s transfer policy as to blame.
Much was made, during the summer, of the increased number of fixtures Liverpool will play before Christmas: the UEFA Super Cup, Community Shield and World Club Championship. The feeling among the fans was the club needed a few more players to help bolster the squad.

Instead the Liverpool first team squad got smaller with Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge leaving the club without replacements.
The decision to leave Andrew Robertson as the only senior left back on the squad came under heavy fire last night. The Scottish international had to pass a late fitness test and then played a role in both of Napoli’s goals as tiredness and lack of concentration set in.
Robertson is a terrific player, but even terrific players have limits. He is the only senior player that can’t be rotated without a dramatic drop to the next available player; James Milner or Joe Gomez playing out of position or Adam Lewis or Yasser Larouci from the Under 23 side.

The manager also has little room to rotate the forwards with Divock Origi injured and Rhian Brewster not even making the bench last night. These were clear areas of concern in the summer and like man fans we voiced our disappointment that no first team squad signings were made for the outfield.
The 2-0 defeat was a continuation of last season’s poor form away from home in the group stage of the competition; they lost all three of those games last year. However, they went on to win the trophy so last night is not the end of the world.
