Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is showing the ruthless team mentality at the club ahead of the Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday.
Defeat is a rare thing for Liverpool Football Club these days. Therefore fans will be glad to hear that Virgil van Dijk is leading the club in the dressing room with a ruthless mentality to win.
Following the Reds disappointing loss to Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday the Dutch defender spoke about responding well, reported by Andy Hunter of The Guardian:
“We’ve been performing since the start of the season outstanding so there’s no reason for panic. The majority in the game we played well, we put them under pressure and we created opportunities on the break.”

He takes that optimism and forward thinking into the weekend’s clash:
“There’s a lot of positive things apart from the result. We have to try to win our other games and we now focus on Chelsea.”
The Reds have not lost a game since the first leg semi-final defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League back in May. They were nicknamed ‘mentality giants’ by manager Jurgen Klopp as they responded exceptionally to setbacks last term
When asked about how the side will move on this week he states:
“We just try to win the game. We played well at times against Napoli and made it very difficult for them. It’s not easy to do that because they have the fans and they are a very good football side but we did it. But it’s all about the results in the end.”
There is a great mix here of being encouraged by the positives while fully understanding the results are what ultimately matters.
Klopp has created an incredible balance of sober assessment of flaws and disappointments while instilling an unswerving belief the player’s talent and ability to win.
