Liverpool will face Leicester City on Saturday in the Premier League and Ben Chilwell is reflecting on how he could have made a transfer to Anfield.

Liverpool Football Club will welcome Leicester City this weekend as they look to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season. The Foxes’ full back Ben Chilwell is speaking about he could have made the transfer switch to the Reds.

The left back was a transfer target for LFC in the summer of 2016 as Jurgen Klopp was impressed by the then 17-year-old’s development. While no formal move was made their were talks with the youngster’s agent.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Chilwell reflects: “I was 17 at the time. My agent was the one dealing with it all, talking to Liverpool and Leicester about the situation.”

A move to a big club like Liverpool must have been appealing for him but he kept his focus on the task at hand: “At the time, I was trying to break into the U21 team at Leicester so I was just focused on getting into that and progressing into the first team here.”

Does he wish that he had made that move as a teenager?

“Definitely no regrets. When I look at how the last four or five years have gone, starting eight games now for the England team is something I’m very happy with.”

He probably made the right decision. While he has gone on to be one of the top left backs in the league, he would be behind Andrew Robertson and Anfield today.

The Scottish captain scored a marvelous goal last night against Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League to highlight his status as one of the best in the world at his position.

Chilwell will be up against the in-form Sadio Mane on Saturday and will have plenty of opportunity to show why the club wanted to nab his as a teenager.
