Liverpool fans need Newcastle United as their second favourite team after the Magpies beat Manchester United 1-0 at St. James’ Park.

NOT ONLY did the Magpies beat Manchester City last season to give us a sniff of winning the Premier League, but Steve Bruce has gone and pulled off a minor miracle and pulled the wool over Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s eyes.

Newcastle keep on doing Liverpool favours and as a result we should all view the noisy northerners as our second team.

The Benitez connection really helped last season – who doesn’t want to see him do well now – and their part in ensuring Man Utd went home crying with Solskjaer issuing a public apology is too good to see.

As well as this strange rival slaying, the Magpies are too far away from us in the table to be any threat to us. It would be different if they were challenging at the top end and stood a chance of beating the Reds in the league, but they’ve fallen too far for that.

Bruce is like your cuddly uncle that comes round at Christmas with a barrel full of presents, gets a bit tipsy and ends up asleep on your couch before 8pm with a face full of permanent marker drawings. He’s not a threat.

But strangely, Newcastle keep on taking out clubs who are a threat to Liverpool. The City win last season was a bloody miracle and after being humbled with Norwich and Leicester nobody would have given them a chance against the Red Devils.

Solskjær will now go into the Liverpool game on the 20th under immense pressure. He’s lead them to their worst ever Premier League start and made Rio Ferdinand look more than a tad silly – what a crying shame.
