Liverpool rivals for the Premier League title Man City are facing a deepening of their injury crisis as two new defenders pick up injuries.
Liverpool are top of the Premier League by eight points after eight games played and their nearest rivals Man City are in a mini-injury crisis with two more players joining the injury list in the last week.
Benjamin Mendy missed the visit from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend with a hamstring injury, according to the official Man City website, forcing Pep Guardiola to play João Cancelo at left back.

The club state he will return after the international break but they don’t state if that will be to training or if he’ll be ready for selection for their fixture away at Crystal Palace next Saturday. That would be a quick return from a hamstring injury and my guess is they play it cautious with the Frenchman’s injury history.
During the defeat to Wolves, Kyle Walker left the game at half-time with illness according to the Manchester Evening News:
“Kyle had an infection in his stomach. He didn’t train so well, he lost a lot of weight and he made an incredible effort to play because we needed fast players with the problems we had backwards because we knew we needed to make the build up with three in the back and not four. But at half-time he said he didn’t feel good so we make the change”.
They are predicting he’ll be back for the Palace fixture.
Those new injuries compound the problems at center back where Guardiola has been missing John Stones with a thigh injury. He could return in the next few weeks but fellow defender Aymeric Laporte has been ruled out until the new year with a serious knee injury.
We are now less than a month away from Liverpool hosting Man City on November 10th and Jurgen Klopp will be secretly hoping these injuries linger on until that fixture.
