The one thing Jurgen Klopp can’t give us
As Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum spanked home his second goal it became clear that there will always be one thing Jurgen Klopp can’t give us.
We all know there’s plenty the manager can give us and we all love him for that, but when you watch Wijnaldum play the way he does for the Netherlands you can’t help but allow yourself a small daydream.
He scored two as the Dutch beat Belarus 2-1 to all but secure their EURO 2020 qualification. His first was a poacher’s effort that Newcastle United fans would recognize from Gini’s sole season up north, while the second was an absolute thunderbastard from well outside the area.
Georginio Wijnaldum is a totally different animal for Liverpool than for the Netherlands and Jurgen Klopp has him playing in a specific way that’ll benefit the team the most. I understand that, I know it enables the system to swap the opposition and protect the back four, but still.

There’s something so liberating about watching Wijnaldum play for the Netherlands as opposed to watching him play for the Reds. Domestically he carries out the unspectacular jobs and is underrated by fans. For the Dutch he’s on fire and has scored six times in nine games.
Klopp will probably bring the former Magpie into the side to face Manchester United on Sunday and he’ll revert to type: a hard worker, neat passer, play disrupter who rarely gets in a position to score or influence things too much at the sharp end.
With Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold bombing up and down the flanks, providing assists and creating chances for Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah there isn’t a lot of wiggle room for the midfield three to be heroes.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t feel a little bit sad that Jurgen Klopp will never allow us to see Georginio Wijnaldum in his purest form.
