Man City record signing in awe of how good the Reds really are
By David Gate
Liverpool are one of the best teams in recent years according to Man City record signing Rodri who has been blown away by the quality of the Reds.
You may think this Liverpool side is one of the best you’ve ever seen. You would be right, but there is someone else who may be surprised agrees with you; Man City star midfielder Rodri.
The Spanish international became City’s record signing when the triggered his £60.5 million transfer release fee in his contract at Atletico Madrid.
He had only been at Atletico for a year after earning a move from Villarreal in the summer of 2018. His stellar performances under Diego Simeone had Pep Guardiola come knocking for the midfielder he sees as the long-term replacement for Fernandinho.

His first taste of action in England was the Community Shield against Liverpool. His side one the match on penalties but he was bowled over by the quality of Jurgen Klopp’s team.
In an interview with The Guardian he says:
“I touched down to find one of the best teams I’ve seen in recent years. Liverpool get seen as a counterattacking team, but they dominate, score from set-plays, the attacking mechanisms are well-worked, they have variety.”
He knows that this LFC side are more than just a solid defense with some quick forwards and goes on to share how impressed he is with the Reds tactics:
“Klopp’s teams are tough, physical. They go at you like animals. They’re like a knife: one comes at you, then another.”
I love the analogy of a “knife”.
Rodri may have been expecting an easier ride in the Premier League when he joined Man City who put up the two best points totals in English top flight history over the last two seasons.
However, he has found the Liverpool side to be relentless in their quest for a title. Liverpool are currently eight points ahead of Man City after eight games. A win at Old Trafford on Sunday would give the Reds another boost towards that elusive Premier League champions trophy.
