Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has described Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay as “fantastic” ahead of their Premier League clash on Sunday.

Liverpool full back Andy Robertson has taken the unusual step of extolling a Manchester United player ahead of the two sides meeting at Old Trafford on Sunday in a huge Premier League clash.

But if you’re thinking about getting mad at Robbo then pause; because it is his international colleague Scott McTominay who is drawing the praise.

The official Man Utd website has quotes from the Scottish captain speaking about the recent international break saying:

More from Rush The Kop

“There was a wee bit of banter with Scott McTominay during the Scotland duty, just a wee bit, not much, honest!”

Hopefully Robbo was giving it “Ole’s at the wheel” and “Six times” references all last week!

Despite the joking between the two about the clash, Robertson had time to compliment him:

“I thought Scotty was fantastic for us against San Marino, to be honest. And he’s been excellent all season in a United team that has had its critics,” the official club site reported that he said.

“I think he’s carried himself very well. I’ll be looking forward to facing him on Sunday. Obviously, I hope to come out on top.”

McTominay has settled in to be one of the more reliable members of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s first team and has impressed many watchers with his development and consistency.

However, he will face a huge challenge against Jurgen Klopp’s Red Machine who have begun the season in excellent form, winning all eight of their opening fixtures for their best start to a Premier League season.

How well he’s able to cope with the combined might of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah will go a long way to seeing if the Scottish international can develop in the way Utd will want him to.
