Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is at a Jordan Henderson crossroads as he prepares his team to take on Manchester City on Sunday.

Henderson is the Reds’ captain and he’s a huge influence in the dressing room, but the England international is being pushed hard by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and now Klopp is at a crossroads.

Georginio Wijnaldum doesn’t seem likely to be dropped. The manager really rates Gini and he’s one of the automatic picks, alongside Fabinho.

But with Oxlade-Chamberlain grabbing his fourth goal in four games against Genk in the Champions League on Tuesday night, the former Arsenal man is posing difficult questions that the German needs to answer.

The Ox brings things to the team that no other in the Liverpool squad can. Jordan Henderson plays with passion and he leads from the front. He never gives up and he keeps things ticking really well in the engine room, but he doesn’t provide a plan B.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain does, and that’s what makes him so unique to the side. He also loves playing against Manchester City and his performance against Pep Guardiola‘s side during his first campaign in red was outstanding.

But maybe they should play together, but that would mean dropping Wijnaldum – who has started every single Premier League game this season. Jordan Henderson missed out entirely against Newcastle United and played one minute away at Southampton.

One argument for leaving out Oxlade-Chamberlain and starting the regular midfield three is the attacking threat of Manchester City. City, clearly, are packed with attacking talent and will have Kevin de Bruyne back in the side. De Bruyne missed both games last season as he was troubled with injury, and they’re a different kettle of fish with him in the side.
