Liverpool have been linked to a transfer for Son Heung-Min as Spurs appoint Jose Mourinho to replace the sacked Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham Hotspur have a new manager as they have appointed Jose Mourinho to take the reins in North London after sacking Mauricio Pochettino yesterday. Now Liverpool are being linked to a transfer for Son Heung-Min in the aftermath.

The Josh Challies at the Liverpool ECHO has put together an array of Reds supporters clamoring for the club to sign the Korean super star. He says:

More from Rush The Kop

"Following Pochettino’s exit from Spurs, Liverpool fans have smelt an opportunity to raid the North London side as many took to Twitter immediately after the news broke to urge the club to swoop for Son Heung-Min’s services"

There has been no indication from Spurs that the player would be available or from any reputable source that Liverpool would be interested.

Many fans have long speculated that Son would be an excellent player in Jurgen Klopp’s system as he regularly shows his technical quality, fitness, work ethic and tactical awareness. He has arguably been Spurs best and most influential player over the last 18 months.

However, Son Heung-Min signed a contract at Spurs last year that lasts until 2023. That means Liverpool would have to stump up a huge amount (likely well over £50 million) to meet Tottenham’s demands. That is probably too much for a player who will be 28 at the start of next season.

The only way I could see it happening is if Son has a spat with Mourinho – it’s been known to happen with the Portuguese manager – and they decide to sell him on the cheap.

But everything we know about the player suggests he won’t be a problem for his new manager. Quite the opposite; he’s likely to become key for Mourinho.

The club should instead look at younger, hungrier talent like Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund in the forthcoming transfer windows.
