The Champions League heroics of Divock Origi firmly established the Belgian as the ‘fourth’ forward in the squad behind Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Brewster was expected to be fifth.
However he has struggled to make an impact in his opportunities. A good start to pre-season was followed by a succession of anonymous games. His chances in the Carabao Cup have seen plenty of effort but not a lot of productivity apart from scoring his penalty in the shootout against Arsenal.
The club feels he needs more minutes of first team experience and so are willing to listen to offers for him in the second half of the season.
That is excellent news for 16-year-old Harvey Elliott who has impressed since signing from Fulham in August.
While Elliott is not a center forward like Brewster, he is a very promising winger. His inclusion is first team affairs would allow Salah or Mane to play in the ‘number 9’ role if injuries to Firmino or Origi left Jurgen Klopp short of a striker.
There remains the possibility that the club will make a transfer move for a forward in January but all the indications are they will wait to the summer before making a splash in the transfer market.
