An £18m Bundesliga midfielder has revealed his Liverpool ‘dream’ to a local broadcaster.

Berliner Kurier has revealed how Marko Grujic wants to come back to Anfield next season and challenge for a role in the midfield.

After spending two seasons on loan with Hertha Berlin, Grujic told the publication that his ‘dream’ is to fight for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s first team when his loan in the German capital comes to an end.

“My dream is to get the chance in Liverpool next season,” said the Serbian midfielder, who has played 12 Bundesliga games during 2019/2020.

This is the second year of his temporary stay with Hertha, but Grujic said he’s open to spending a third term with the side and that he likes the project and the facilities available to him in Berlin.

With a packed midfield squad, Marko Grujic will find it difficult to force his way into the team. One possible route back would be for Adam Lallana and James Milner to leave Anfield and open up a place for a rotational player to come into the side.

Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Georginio Wijnaldum are the first team regulars and that isn’t going to change any time soon as Klopp has firmly established favourites.

At 23-years-old, this might not be the best option for the Serbian’s career, but it might be the only one he’ll get if he wants to pull on the Liverpool red again.

With 14 appearances under Klopp, Grujic has never got going with his Reds career and spent half a season with Cardiff City on loan in the Championship before going to the Bundesliga with Berlin during 2018/2019.

When available, the Serbian played. He made 22 appearances throughout the campaign but missed a chunk through several ankle injuries.

All he can do now is concentrate on playing as best he can for Hertha Berlin, after that, who knows what may happen next season. He’s already worth £18 million so Michael Edwards should be able to get a healthy return on investment for the youngster.
