It is a huge boost for fans who have been waiting for this news for a year. Rumors of a new contract have been circulating ever since the club reached the Champions League final in 2018. Winning the competition in 2019 has only increased the clammer to keep the German at Anfield for as long as possible.

Now the fanbase is hoping the Reds can push on and secure the transfer of Takumi Minamino. Red Bull Salzburg and Liverpool have agreed terms on his £7.5 million transfer release clause. It appears that all is left is the terms with the player; his contract and a medical.

The midfielder will be the first significant addition to the first tea, squad since the summer of 2018 though his arrival could spell trouble for one or two players on the fringes of the squad.

The success of the first team makes it hard to upgrade the squad but Minamino presents excellent value at his price; he has impressed in the Champions League group games against the Reds and has 9 goals and 11 assists in 22 games this season.

Minamino would also be able to feature for Liverpool in Europe after rule making players cup tied in the competition was removed last year.
