Liverpool beat Monterrey 2-1 today in the World Club Cup to progress to the final. Here are the LFC player ratings:

Liverpool are through to face Flamengo in the World Club Cup final after another late goal to win a game against Mexican side Monterrey in the semi-final matchup.

Jurgen Klopp surprised everyone with his lineup today. The big news was the defense where James Milner and Jordan Henderson replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk respectively.

Andrew Robertson was back in the side after being rested in the win against Watford. There was a completely new midfield from Saturday’s win with Adam Lallana, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain making a very attack minded unit. Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri supplemented Mohamed Salah in attack.

Keita opened the scoring with a nice finish from a sweet Salah pass. The makeshift defense conceded a few minutes later.

While the Reds dominated possession they lacked the pace and quality to break down a well-organized and determined Monterrey side.

The winning breakthrough came in the 91st minute as two subs – Roberto Firmino and Alexander-Arnold connected to keep the (first team’s) winning run going.
