Liverpool receive a boost to their title hopes as Man City confirm David Silva will miss today’s Premier League clash with Wolves through injury.

Liverpool fans are buoyant after the 4-0 Boxing Day demolition of Leicester City yesterday consolidated their huge lead at the top of the Premier League. But today they received a further boost with the news that David Silva will miss the Man City clash with Wolves through injury.

Daniel Murphy of the Manchester Evening News reports that there is no set return date for key midfielder as the club captain recovers from a leg injury:

More from Rush The Kop

"The Spaniard completed the full 90 minutes of the game but has since not appeared, although it was initially thought he wasn’t played in the next game just as a precaution, it’s obviously more serious than first feared. Guardiola has said that he is on the road to recovery though and hopefully will be back soon."

Liverpool are 14 points ahead of City after 18 games played and their rivals can ill-afford any more injuries or dropped points in the next few weeks.

They already have Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte as long-term injury absentees with the pair not slated to return until well into the new year.

John Stones is another who will miss today’s game leaving Nicolás Otamendi and Fernandinho as the center back pairing tasked with keeping a clever and organized Wolves side at bay.

The perfect scenario for the Reds is for Wolves to win tonight but exhaust themselves in the process as their next match is a trip to Anfield on Sunday. Jurgen Klopp’s men will have a day’s extra rest as the manager will likely rotate a few players with Sheffield United coming into town next Thursday.
