Liverpool have signed a 21-year-old striker with 40 goals in 80 appearances as they complete the second deal of this transfer window.

The Echo has reported that the former Manchester City youngster has been brought to Anfield and will join the U23 squad as cover for Rhian Brewster – who is expected to leave on loan.

Joe Hardy has hit those numbers playing for Brentford B and will now try to replicate that form for Neil Critchley’s side. With that return, it’s odd that the forward was never rewarded with a first team debut but now he will concentrate on breaking through to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The ex City lad only moved to the Bees two year ago as played for his new side on Sunday. Liverpool have made a habit of bringing in older players from youth structures around the country as Joe Hardy joins 22-year-old Isaac Christie-Davies in the second string squad.

Christie-Davies was brought in on a free from Chelsea and hasn’t threatened to break through to the first team, but Hardy will be hoping for a different outcome.

This is the second completed transfer of the January window after Takumi Minamino joined as soon as he was allowed to. Minamino made his debut in the 1-0 FA Cup victory over Everton and impressed – but might find he has to wait his turn before the Japan international features in the Premier League.

Liverpool have also been linked with Vitesse left-back Max Clark, who has better stats than Leicester City star Ben Chilwell. Clark would come in as cover for Andy Robertson, who rarely misses a game.

Brewster may join Herbie Kane out on loan as the Echo reported Swansea City are closing in on the capture of the forward. Kane is at Hull City until the end of the season and made his debut during their FA Cup game against Rotherham.
