Liverpool defensive midfielder Pedro Chirivella is set to be offered a new deal at Anfield according to the latest transfer rumors from Sky Sports.

Liverpool Football Club are poised to offer a new contract to defensive midfielder Pedro Chirivella according to reports from Sky Sports.

The Spanish youngster was hugely impressive in yesterday’s 1-0 victory over Everton in the FA Cup. Sky Sports tweeted out today that the 22-year-old could be handed a new contract in the wake of that display.

Chirivella is out of contract in the summer and could be available on a free transfer. After only making four appearances for the club in the last three years he was expected to leave Anfield in search of more first team football.

His long-term future may still like away from Liverpool but the club will be keen to ensure he doesn’t depart for nothing, especially after show casing his talents on a national stage yesterday.

He spent two seasons on loan in the Eredivisie; for Go Ahead Eagles in 2016/17 and Willem II in 2017/18. A third loan spell to Extremadura in the Spanish second division failed to materialize last year – even after it had been announced – due to the appropriate documentation not being registered in time.

It has been a long wait for Chirivella to the recognition at Anfield that his talent has deserves but he drew rave reviews for his showing alongside Adam Lallana against the Toffees.

The pair dominated the first choice Everton midfield through high energy and clever use of the ball in possession.

However, a new deal for him is likely to be more the club protecting a financial asset than genuine belief in his chances of being a first team regular.

Jurgen Klopp has a plethora of options at the position with Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Gini Wijnaldum, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all regulars in midfield.

Add to that Lallana, the emerging Curtis Jones, the on-loan Marko Grujic and the ability of Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino to also play the role and it is hard to imagine a future where Chirivella features regularly at Anfield/
