Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave an update on the injury status of James Milner after the midfielder left FA Cup win over Everton after nine minutes.

A Merseyside derby win is always welcome, but the latest one came at some cost with James Milner leaving the 1-0 Liverpool victory over Everton with injury during the first ten minutes.

After the game Jurgen Klopp offered some insight into the player’s injury that will have Reds concerned about the player’s availability in the immediate future.

In his post-match interview Klopp was asked about the severity of Milner’s injury and he responded:

"“He has pain. That says it’s serious. It’s muscle.”"

The relief from fans will be that the injury is not a knee or ligament problem – those are the type of ailments that keep players out for months on end. Many were speculating it was a hamstring injury during the match due to how he was holding his leg.

A thigh injury is the best we can make out and there should be further updates as we get nearer to Saturday’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur. However, Milner is not expected to feature at the weekend or train with the first team until at least next week.

The small bonus for Klopp is that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came off the bench in the second half as he recovers from the ankle injury he suffered against Flamengo in the World Club Cup final.

Seeing Oxlade-Chamberlain on crutches after the game sparked huge concern in the fanbase for a player who recently missed a year with a knee injury. However, he has made a speedy comeback and should be in contention to start at the weekend.

Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri both will rejoin training with the first team this week though it remains to be seen if they will be available for the trip to North London.
