Curtis Jones will be a Liverpool first teamer – but who else will follow him?
Liverpool starlet Curtis Jones will be a first team regular at some point in the future, but who else will follow him into the squad?
Jones has been a fixture of the cup side and his form has been rewarded with a few Premier League minutes and the captaincy for the Shrewsbury win.
That side was packed with talented youngsters, but who is most likely to follow their young skipper into the senior Liverpool side?
Most immediately, two positions stick out like a sore thumb: left-back and right-back. Adam Lewis played there during the week but Yasser Larouci looks well placed to challenge for the honour of playing back-up to Andy Robertson.

Similarly, Neco Williams has done fantastically since he first featured in the Carabao Cup and the Welshman’s performances have gone from strength to strength. It wouldn’t be that much of a shock to see him make the squad for Euro 2020 at this rate.
Jurgen Klopp has a problem with the flanks. There will be few players willing to sacrifice a few years of their career to sit on the bench behind Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold – but Williams and Larouci would, for now.
Plus it would allow Liverpool to have another couple of home grown youngsters in the squad and introduce more Academy grads to the side, something we all love to see.
Further up the field, Harvey Elliott looks like an outstanding talent but he’s so young. He will be given his chance, but you’d imagine a loan spell might come first for the 16-year-old. Right now the path is a little more congested for Elliott, although if Harry Wilson and Xherdan Shaqiri are sold in the summer that will clear up.
One man who can count himself a little unlucky is Pedro Chirivella. The Spaniard is 22-years-old, and needs regular football now. If this breakthrough had happened a few years ago, there’s every chance Chirivella would have been able to count on a few years as a squad footballer.
We have a minimum of two, maybe three our four, youngsters looking to break through into the first team over the next few seasons. Liverpool are in rude health.
