If Harry Wilson leaves Liverpool his departure will hurt so much because he embodied the dream that every supporter has for their team.
It won’t hurt because we need him. With Mohamed Salah, Xherdan Shaqiri and even Takumi Minamino in the squad, it isn’t necessarily that important for Wilson to stay on Merseyside.
It won’t hurt because of any bad blood fostered between player and supporter, or any spoiling of what might have been. This isn’t a Michael Owen style forward, who burst onto the scene before fading faster than your Dad after Christmas dinner.
Harry Wilson was and wasn’t all at the same time. When he was, he wasn’t for Liverpool. We could only peep over the garden fence and hope that one day he would bring that to us.

But those dream will probably die with his Merseyside career in the summer. It has been reported that Jurgen Klopp will allow the Wales international to depart in order to make room for Curtis Jones in the squad.
And that hurts because Academy graduates who score thunderbastards against Manchester United from 30 yards out and celebrate like they’ve won the World Cup are priceless. They’re the best type of graduate, I don’t care what you say. If Trent Alexander-Arnold was a striker you’d love him more.
We love them so much because they’re our dream. Everyone wanted to be the local lad to come through the youth ranks and score goals for fun for the senior side. Harry Wilson at Derby County suggested he could do that for Liverpool – as did his early season Bournemouth form.
But if he is sold, that will all whimper away and we’ll be left chasing shadows until the next forward to come out of Melwood emerges. Wilson leaving might not harm the squad quality, but it hurts because he embodies the dream.
