Another future secured as Salzburg winner signs fresh deal

Liverpool have secured another future to the club as the winner from Salzburg has signed fresh terms on Merseyside.

The official club website has reported that youngster Layton Stewart has signed professional terms as he becomes the latest talent to commit to Anfield.

Stewart has been with Liverpool since he was a nipper and scored goals against Napoli and Genk before providing the assist against Salzburg in the U19 Youth League.

As a reward for those performances,  Neil Critchley promoted him to the U23 squad and the striker played two Leasing.com games against Accrington Stanley and Fleetwood Town.

Layton Stewart was included in the squad that lost to Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup as he was handed his first taste of professional football.

The Stockbridge Village lad since dropped down to U18 level and netted three times against Sunderland in January. It’s encouraging to see those further down the Anfield food chain handed professional terms, and the progression of youngsters from U18 to first team will give Stewart hope.

Liverpool is a great place to be a player of promise right now. Jurgen Klopp is committed to giving youth a chance and it looks like Curtis Jones and Neco Williams will be handed their big breakthrough for 2020/2021.

That will only serve to fuel the fire in lads like Stewart, who will see that Klopp is more than happy to feature youngsters when he thinks they can make the cut. But before that happens, the 17-year-old faces years of hard work and dedication.

By scoring against Accrington, the striker has shown he can cut the mustard against adults. A loan move may come next, or it may not, but now that professional terms have been signed and a future secured, Stewart can concentrate on his development instead of making a move elsewhere to grab a place in the pro ranks.
