Liverpool star Sadio Mane has won the prize for worst assist of the season following his butchered attempted to set up Mohamed Salah.

We’ve seen plenty of brilliant assists this season. We’ve been spoiled by glorious cross-field passes by Trent Alexander-Arnold or little no-look dinks by Roberto Firmino.

We don’t often witness a scrappy ball saved by a bit of individual magic.

But that’s exactly what Mohamed Salah did when he scored following Sadio Mane’s horrifically butchered pass to him.

Honestly it was a ball that was bad enough to bring the conspiracy theorists out of the woodwork. Mane had robbed the ball from some hapless Bournemouth defender, who dithered with it just outside his own area, and stormed towards Aaron Ramsdale‘s box.

Salah was up there in support of his strike colleague and quickly presented him with an excellent option just to the right of the area.

It wasn’t a difficult ball to execute but somehow the Senegal international put it behind and beyond Mo, who was storming into the box and had to check his run fairly violently.

By the time Salah managed to retrieve the ball, Bournemouth defenders had swarmed in support of Ramsdale and looked to have things under control.

However, as the King does when he’s playing at his best, these numbers didn’t seem to matter and he biffed it through the crowd and past the Cherries goalkeeper to level the score.

It seems wrong that Mane gets an assist for that awful piece of football, but the stats are the stats and on paper it’ll look like the forward had another vintage performance for Liverpool.

You can watch him nearly get it oh so wrong here.

Next. The next Andy Robertson is 19 and plays in New Zealand. dark

The three points takes us one step closer to the treasured Premier League title, and it’s good to see both our strikers hit the back of the net before the huge clash against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

But hopefully Mane is a bit sharper than that on the night.
