Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum has scored a few crackers over the years, and here are his best for Feyenoord from way back when.

The 29-year-old broke through at the Rotterdam club in 2007 before moving to PSV Eindhoven four years later, but his tender age didn’t stop him making his mark on his first ever side.

With 135 appearances, Gini Wijnaldum scored 25 goals and created 11 as he established himself as one of the Eredivisie’s standout youngsters.

Even at that young age, we can see the qualities that marked Gini out as a brilliant talent. He scored goals where he ran off the shoulder of the last man, kept his calm and dinked the ball past the goalkeeper. There were a lot of those.

He cracked some from outside the area, he scored headers at the back post.

But then PSV swooped for the starlet, signed him for a surprisingly low £4.50 million and Feyenoord had to watch their former favorite hit 56 more goals in the Netherlands as well as create 24 for his mates before Newcastle United came calling.

We don’t see his goalscoring instinct too much at Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp needs the Dutchman to be more withdrawn, more of a shield and he does that well.

But we know Wijnaldum has it in his locker. That double against Barcelona showed that Klopp has been shackling the man with a million dollar smile for the good of the team and he scored goals against West Ham and Atletico Madrid more recently.

I can’t see Klopp ever allowing Gini to break forward more regularly and score, especially not under this system. Our midfield needs to be functional, they need to screen the defence. With the full-backs pushing so high, they are the wall holding back opposition attacks.

So we’ll have to appreciate Wijnaldum of the past. Those long dreads flowing, the legs pumping, the goal scoring.
