Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri: I operate on instinct
Liverpool forward Xherdan Shaqiri has said he plays football on instinct after the official club website had a chat with the Swiss international.
They ran a fairly exhaustive Q+A with the former Stoke City man as they discussed a wide range of subjects while Liverpool players have been sent home and football is suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Xherdan Shaqiri has had the worst season of his career so far as he’s been available for just 7% of the season and has scored just one goal in 10 games.
But he’s still a good player and the sole time he hit the back of the net was a fine example of the skills the former Bayern Munich man brings to the table.
Cutting from right to left, Shaqiri latched on to a pass and slotted the ball past Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as Liverpool smashed Everton.

That comes without thinking to the Kosovo born attacker. Speaking about his upbringing and how he played a lot of street football with older boys, The Powercube said:
"“I’m kind of this player, of course, who plays with a lot of instinct – like from zero to make a great pass or score a nice goal.”"
He’s not the tallest person in the world but Shaqiri is strong, quick and creative and could have been a much better player for Liverpool had injuries not wrecked his season. There are several top level sides who were interested in signing him in January, and it looks like he’s due to leave in the summer.
With Mohamed Salah in the side, it’s always going to be hard for the second choice player to get a game and the Shaq’s life at Anfield was always going to be one of the benchwarmer.
However, he has had his good moments for Liverpool and that includes setting up Georginio Wijnaldum for his goal in the famous victory over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final. He added:
"“Of course, I have the quality for crosses and good crosses. For giving assists, too.”"
And he does. But it’s unlikely we’ll see that quality at Anfield going forward.
