Virgil van Dijk is the beast who wants more blood
Liverpool monster Virgil van Dijk is the beast who is always out for more blood and his most recent interview proves it.
All great players have that inner desire to be the best and to stay at the top of the table and it’s no surprise to learn that Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk is exactly the same.
Since his arrival from Southampton, the Dutchman has helped turn Jurgen Klopp’s defence from one that had it’s shambolic moments to one of the best in the Premier League.
Often, it’s been the best.
Klopp has played a big part in that as his style and appreciation for the tactical role that each player needs to carry out has overwhelmed the opposition.
But without footballers in the side who have an incredible inner drive to focus on their work and be the best they can be, that would all be for nothing.
And that’s why it’s so encouraging to hear Virgil van Dijk speaking like the true leader he is: never giving in, always looking for fresh advantages and trying to take his game to the next level at 28-years-old.

"The official club website reported that he said: “There is always room for improvement; I know it and I just try to keep looking for it and keep working on it.”"
The former Saint is lucky in the sense that his manager for the Netherlands is Ronald Koeman, someone who played at the very highest level and a man who is well placed to seek out small improvements to van Dijk’s game when he’s away from Liverpool.
"He added: “With the help of all my teammates and obviously the manager, and also the manager of the national team – Ronald Koeman – that will definitely help me get better even now. So, I just keep doing that.”"
They might play in a different way, with different freedoms awarded to different players, but that will be good for any player’s overall understanding of the game.
Georginio Wijnaldum, for example, plays a lot further forward for Koeman than he does for Klopp and scores goal – but he always comes back and carries out his role for Liverpool perfectly.
All we need is COVID-19 to end so they can get back out there and work on getting better as a group.
