Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold called Lionel Messi unstoppable.

The right-back was holding a session on Twitter in which he talked about some of his best goals of all time.

Of course, this being social media, it was quickly awash with people trying to troll Trent Alexander-Arnold.

To his credit, the Scouser didn’t shy away from any of it and praise exceptional goals by opposition players when they were due.

Amid the thunderbastards from Roberto Carlos and Robin van Persie, there was one goal that nearly changed the course of the club’s history.

One of those is Lionel Messi’s free kick against Liverpool in the first round of the Champions League semi-final last season.

It was an exceptional piece of skill from the brilliant Argentinian and it was rightly praised as being of the best ever.

There’s nothing Alisson could have done to save it, and his performance that day is a large part of why Barca managed to put three past Liverpool and win the first leg.

It’s nice to see someone giving the correct amount of praise out to opposition players when it’s needed. In this competitive and comparative world of football, especially in the toxic echo-chamber of Twitter.

And it was a nice thing to see Alexander-Arnold interact with his fans and the people who follow him in such a way.

With football nearly back to our pitches and screens, we might be able to see things like this in the near future. Alexander-Arnold is the key part of the way Liverpool plays and will help propel Jurgen Klopp’s team to the title.

Everton could be the place that seals the deal for Liverpool, and if you can’t get excited about that I’m not sure we can help you.

Hopefully Trent can do a new thread after this season is finished and there’ll be a couple of new worldies thrown in there for good measure.
