Liverpool need to act quick to seal the deal for their top transfer target.
Matt Law from the Telegraph has reported that Chelsea have thrown their hat into the ring for the man admired by Anfield.
We’ve seen plenty of transfer speculation since football was removed from our screens, but it’s looking more and more likely that Liverpool will be watching their spending this summer.
Losing their match day revenue has hurt the side, as has the rebate they will have to pay back to the broadcasters, and that’ll all restrict how much money is spent when the transfer window opens.
Despite that, some sides are ploughing ahead with their spending. Chelsea are one of them, and are after someone who Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp rates incredibly highly.
The Blues have already committed to a fairly large outlay for Ajax man Hakim Ziyech, and you’d think that the shifting sands of financial fortune would encourage them to play it safe for the remainder of this uncertain period.
But no.

Liverpool have been keeping their powder dry and you’d assume there’s enough money left in the bank to pull off one big deal this season. There new kit deal with Nike is a huge upgrade on terms offered by New Balance, while they’ll earn a bumper payout for winning the Premier League.
Of course, the man we’re talking about is German striker Timo Werner. Chelsea are keen to bring in another forward to supplement their ranks, and believe they can seal a deal for the Leipzig man for less than £53 million.
His release clause in his contract drops by £17 million for next summer, wrote Law, so there is a clear incentive for Leipzig to sell Werner this summer.
That is why they could accept an offer that sits between 2021’s release amount of £36 million and the current £53 million clause.
But, the waiting game played by Liverpool could prove fruitless if Chelsea are successful with their bid. Even though Werner wants a move to Anfield, he’s admitted it himself, stranger things have happened in football.
