Liverpool won’t accept hypocritical Adama Traore.

New reports have linked Liverpool with Wolves forward with a move to Anfield, but that could come with problems of its own.

Adama Traore could cost around the same fee that the club refused to spend on Timo Werner as Wolves look to bank £100 million in transfer fees this summer.

Could this open up FSG and Jurgen Klopp to accusations of hypocrisy?

We saw that Werner was deemed to be out of Liverpool’s price range as Chelsea were prepared to stump up the money as well as offer the German striker a bumper deal over five years, as well as a hefty fee for his agent.

This was a man who was desperate to move to Anfield and wanted to work under Klopp in order to win things. The manager was keen, the player was keen and yet the move still fell through.

Why, then, are Liverpool being linked with a man who would cost a similar amount?

If Adama Traore is signed, there’ll be some uncomfortable questions asked of FSG and the Anfield hierarchy and will almost certainly set tongues wagging.

Werner would fortify a position that requires it the most, and Traore would not.

We’ve got Mohamed Salah out on the right, while Xherdan Shaqiri or Harry Wilson could currently provide cover. So could Takumi Minamino, who was signed in January. Harvey Elliott, too, can be expected to provide more minutes and Traore could harm his development.

Out left, we’ve got Curtis Jones to come in from the academy as well as Divock Origi and Minamino. There are plenty of options, and that’s without getting creative.

It would feel like a kick in the teeth for one explanation to be offered and then instantly gone back on and that’s not how Liverpool operates these days.
