Liverpool have been linked with Denis Zakaria.
A staff writer for Spanish outlet Defensa Central reported that Liverpool are interested in the Borussia Monchengladbach, but face competition from Manchester United and Real Madrid.
The news come among a batch of multiple transfer rumours linking the Reds with expensive transfers, despite the fact they pulled out of a deal to sign Timo Werner because he cost too much much.
Adama Traore was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, while there were whispers that Georginio Wijnaldum was going to resolve his contract standoff with the club.
Neither of those would come cheap.
Denis Zakaria has been in excellent form this season and is among the leading Bundesliga midfielders. According to the website Transfermarkt, he is worth £32.40 million and is under contract for another two years.
With that 2022 expiry, it may be in Monchengladbach’s best interest to sell the player now – while his value is still high.

It would certainly take a bid of more than his value to secure the midfielder, and that would bring Liverpool into Werner realms. That might make him unaffordable.
This link is certainly interesting and would be good for the club on a few levels. Zakaria is a supremely gifted midfielder that could bring something different to the team – his style of play is a little bit like Naby Keita.
However, with funds tight, there might not be any room for a big splurge on the transfer market.
The competition for Zakaria might be clearing, though. Madrid do want him, but they’ve already got a few players who can do what Zakaria does and that means he’s not a top priority.
They also want to sign Eduardo Camavinga, who has interested Liverpool in the past. Camavinga has impressed for Rennes in Ligue 1, but at 17-years-old may not be able to handle moving to a club of Madrid’s intensity at such a young age.
As with Zakaria, Liverpool probably can’t afford Camavinga right now. COVID-19 has knocked the bottom out of the transfer market, and everyone is feeling the pain of that right now.
