A Liverpool deal could be hijacked by Manchester United.

The two sides are often caught fishing in the same waters, but Liverpool have managed to optimise their resources while the Red Devils have not.

When you get as good as Jurgen Klopp’s side, there is a small pool of players available for squad improvements.

There’s an even smaller pool of teams who are able to afford them.

And so it is that Manchester United are looking to hijack a deal that Liverpool have been linked with for some time.

Will Klopp be able to spend big this summer transfer window? The signs don’t all point towards a big splurge, but we’ve seen moves happen quickly and nobody can be sure.

United aren’t afraid to splash the cash and we’ve seen them spend a stupid amount of money as they try to get back to their Sir Alex Ferguson years.

Will the deal for Kalidou Koulibaly make the difference?

According to staff writers from Goal, he’ll cost an incredible amount of money – and that might put Liverpool and United off the deal.

If Timo Werner was deemed to be out of their price range, there’s no reason why Liverpool will be able to find the money for the defender.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis said it’ll take a mental offer of €100million before he considers selling Kalidou Koulibaly.

"He said:  “If City or United or PSG with €100 million showed up, I would think about it and it is probable that they would leave, always if [the player’s] will was to leave.“I don’t even consider an offer of €60million (£55m), I am solid. If I wanted to win the Scudetto at any cost today I would find myself with three, four hundred million debts.”"

Liverpool have been linked with the Senegal defender fairly extensively over the last few months and it would be a little kick to see him go to Manchester, especially after losing out on Werner to Chelsea.

There’s a determination by fans to make sure the progress made over the last couple of seasons isn’t wasted. Supporters want to build on their strength by adding elite players to the squad, but the owners seem reluctant to do that.
