Are Liverpool home track bullies?
Since the Reds haven’t been able to score a goal on the road since they beat Norwich City 1-0 in February, these are valid questions. And what is it about Klopp that creates this cycle?
The German must be aware of this trend, but once again Liverpool look insipid and without much imagination as they lost to City.
Mane and Salah had chances to score but failed to take them, while Firmino struggled with his passing range all night. It’s curious to see the Brazilian do so, especially considering he hasn’t scored at home in the Premier League all season.
One thing Klopp must work hard at is flushing those problems. Yes, the Reds are Premier League winners but they don’t want to end the season on a low-note, which will only encourage the asterisk brigade.
We are still chasing records, and nobody wants the party at the end of it all to be dulled by the fact that Liverpool stopped winning after league victory was confirmed.
I don’t have the answer. Maybe teams are more concerned about getting a result at home and thus play differently to at Anfield, or maybe there is a slight mental block now.
But whatever it is, Klopp risks turning the second half of the campaign into an Anfield-only affair and that benefits nobody.
