Liverpool almost signed this young star.
It is well known that Liverpool’s current ownership is American. The FSG group are proud Yankees and Lebron James also has investment in the club. The Reds’ influence in America stretches far and wide, yet the number of North American stars to have represented Liverpool is scarce.
The most notable is probably American, Brad Friedel who was in between the sticks for several years at Anfield before making his mark at clubs like Aston Villa and Tottenham.
Other less familiar names include Marc Pelosi, Zak Whitebread and Liam Millar who is currently on the club’s roster.

The Reds were determined to sign Christian Pulisic before he made his move from Dortmund to Chelsea but ultimately the American opted with the Blues rather than to reunite with former coach, Jurgen Klopp.
This summer, it seems the club could have made another stalwart North American addition.
According to the Athletic’s James Pearce via Read Liverpool, who is an ever-reliable source of information, Liverpool were interested in bringing Jonathan David to the club.
In the end the club opted to sign Diogo Jota instead in a move which has paid dividends so far with the Portuguese already impressive in his brief career at Anfield after netting on his debut.
Nonetheless, Jonathan David would have been an astute signing too. The Canadian attacker can be deployed as a forward or as a winger. He is extremely quick and agile and is reminiscent of Roberto Firmino when in possession.
The Canadian is a relentless presser too which would have made him a seamless addition to Jurgen Klopp’s geggen-pressing system.
Ultimately, Diogo Jota’s experience probably swung the pendulum his way, meanwhile Jonathan David made a hefty move to French outfit Lille.
Nonetheless, if David continues to impress, there is no reason why the Reds won’t make a move for him in the future.
First Time Finish recently wrote an exclusive story with insight from Jonathan David’s former coaches in Canada which highlighted the forward’s determination to succeed.
The 20 year old’s work ethic and mentality is exactly what Jurgen Klopp looks for in his players. With Roberto Firmino nearing his thirties, Jonathan David might just be the perfect false-nine replacement for the Brazilian in the long term.
Do you think Jonathan David would be a good addition for the club in the future?
