According to Fabrizio Romano in the Guardian via the Daily Mirror, Barcelona made a last ditch attempt to lure Thiago Alcantara to the Nou Camp and to try to hijack Liverpool’s imminent move for the Spaniard, however it was rejected.
It was to no avail, according to Romano who claims Thiago already had his heart set on a move to Anfield.
The fact that Thiago Alcantara rejected not only one of the biggest club’s in the world in Barcelona, but also his boyhood team, where he was nurtured in La Masia, is a huge demonstration of the huge pulling power Jurgen Klopp now has at his disposal.
Thiago Alcantara is without a doubt one of the best midfielders in the world right now and he is in his prime.
Thiago chose to play for Liverpool which is a huge indication that the Reds are heading in the right direction.
Meanwhile Barcelona’s downwards trajectory is a dire warning to Liverpool. The Reds must ensure they continue their successful recruitment and maintain their hold at the pinnacle of world football or else they could suffer the same fate as the Catalans.
With Jurgen Klopp at the helm there is no reason to think that Liverpool will buckle.
The addition of Thiago is simply the icing on the cake. Even in his solitary appearance for the club so far, the Spaniard oozed class and his presence in the team will be a major benefit going forward into the foreseeable future.
His influence will be beneficial for players like Naby Keita and Curtis Jones who will be able to learn from the Spaniard.
