Liverpool could lose a promising star.
Steven Gerrard is an indelible player at Liverpool. His name evokes only fond memories for the Kop. He was a player who led the club through some of its darkest times and remained loyal to his boyhood team until the very end of his playing days.
The ultimate one club man and the most impeccable club captain Steven Gerrard, Liverpool fans yearn for someone of Gerrard’s ilk to emerge from the club’s famous Kirkby academy.
There have been a plethora of players who were dubbed the ‘next Steven Gerrard’ and failed to live up to expectations. From Jay Spearing, Jordan Lussey, Jordan Rossiter, Adam Phillips and the latest star, Herbie Kane.

Herbie Kane was signed from Bristol City as a teenager. Back then the Reds beat Chelsea to the highly rated midfielder’s signature and many tipped him to emulate Steven Gerrard at the club’s academy.
Incidentally under Steven Gerrard’s managerial stint at Kirkby, Herbie Kane became the Liverpool legend’s captain.
Despite impressive performances, his tough tackling and prowess scoring from long range, Herbie Kane was never able to fight himself into the club’s first team making just two solitary appearances in the League Cup.
He did however impress whilst on loan at Doncaster Rovers and Hull City.
Soon to turn 22 years of age, it is clear Herbie Kane’s future at Anfield is non-existent and his departure will be a major blow to the supporters who had such high hopes after his arrival all those years ago.
But it is extremely likely.
According to a report by the Liverpool Echo the club will sell Herbie Kane to Barnsley today.
The loss will be a bitter one for the Reds supporters. Herbie Kane will be another name that will go down as a ‘failed Steven Gerrard’ replacement.
Nonetheless, Herbie Kane has a major opportunity to prove his doubters wrong. Connor Coady never made it at Anfield but he has become an England international and a solid Premier League player since his departure from the club. Coady is a model to follow for Herbie Kane.
Are you sad to see Herbie Kane leave?
