Liverpool could make a move for the perfect fit.

The famous Kirkby Academy in Merseyside has been the home of some of Liverpool’s greatest players. From Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher to Trent Alexander-Arnold. But for every great player who went straight from Kirkby to Melwood, there were a plethora of others who were forced to leave the club in order to try their luck elsewhere.

Conor Coady is a great example.

The current Wolverhampton captain grew up in the  Reds academy from a young age. He captained Liverpool’s U18 side and the Reserves. Coady was teammates with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Suso in an extremely exciting young Reds team.

Back then the scouse talent played in midfield and he earnt himself the ‘next Steven Gerrard label.’

In the end the competition at Anfield proved too fierce despite making a single Premier Appearance under Brendan Rodgers.

From the Reds, Coady enjoyed solid spells with Huddersfield and Sheffield United before moving to Wolves where he has blossomed into an elite centre-back.

The tough-tackling Conor Coady is extremely adept at reading the game. While he might not have lightning quick pace, he is commanding in the air and astute on the ball too. Due to his background of playing in midfield Coady is capable of instigating attacks.

Jamie Carragher joked with Conor Coady about moving to Liverpool to replace Van Dijk on Sky Sports via the Daily Express last night.

However the facetious comment could have an element of truth in it.

Conor Coady recently debuted for England and scored against Wales. His stock continues to rise and with experience of European football last season in the Europa League, it is clear Coady would be ready for the next step.

Moving back to Anfield would be a dream come true for the scouser who could prove to be a fans favourite and a future club captain.

Still just 27 years of age, Coady is in his prime and could develop even more under Klopp. He is the perfect target for the Reds in January to help their defensive struggles in the absence of Van Dijk.

In the long-term Coady could become an astute partner of Van Dijk too.

Do you think the club should sign Conor Coady?
