Liverpool could be about to land a shock signing.

With the conclusion of the transfer window, you would think outlandish news about Liverpool would have ceased for a short while at least. However you would be wrong. Even though the transfer window is closed the Reds can still in theory recruit free agents.

The club have done their fair share of ‘wheeling and dealing’ in the past. From Joel Matip to James Milner or even the likes of Craig Bellamy were astute signings who arrived on Bosman transfers and won their hearts into the adoration of the Kop.

With the long term injury of Virgil Van Dijk, there are concerns the club do not have enough defenders to cope with the heavy schedule both in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Especially with the track record of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

It has seen the club linked with an entire array of world-class defenders in the upcoming January transfer window. However, the Reds could make a defensive signing even before that.

According to Todo Fichajes, Liverpool are considering making a contract offer to free agent Ezequiel Garay and could be about to sign the Argentine international.

The former Valencia man and the international teammate of Lionel Messi is regarded as a veteran. At 34 years of age Ezequiel Garay has played at the highest level for some  time now. From Real Madrid, Zenit, Benfica and Valencia, Ezequiel Garay has a myriad of experience at some of the most competitive leagues in Europe.

He has encountered English teams in numerous occasions therefore and so he wouldn’t be entirely alien to the hustle and bustle nature of the Premier League.

Not blessed with pace, but astutely technically and a menace in the air, Ezequiel Garay plays with the same composure as Dejan Lovren, though he is probably prone to less errors than the Croatian.

At 34 he might not be a long term solution for the Reds but could offer Jurgen Klopp more options and an extra pair of legs in a busy period.

Even a short term contract until January might be worth it for the club.

Garay’s experience in the team could be invaluable too.
