Liverpool could land a major coup.

Things have started smoothly for Liverpool this season. Despite a relatively successful transfer window and despite being joint first in the Premier League, the club have incurred some hiccups. From irksome injuries to appalling refereeing decision, the Reds have had to persevere in their short campaign so far.

Perhaps the biggest challenge facing Jurgen Klopp’s side is the absence of Virgil Van Dijk. A talisman and a leader on and off the pitch, the Dutchman will likely be out for the rest of the season.

It has left the club with just three senior options at centre-back, and with both Joe Gomez and Joel Matip having a poor injury track record, the club will be anxiously awaiting the January transfer window.

If the rumours are to be believed, the Reds are already concocting plans to procure a fine centre-back and one of the Bundesliga’s most highly regarded players in Ozan Kabak.

The Daily Mirror via the Daily Mail, has confirmed that the Reds have opened talks with Schalke over a potential move for the Turkish international in January.

Liverpool will purportedly be looking to sign the defender for as cheap as £20 million which could be a major bargain for the club.

Schalke have been in poor form this season, and have shipped plentiful of goals even with Kabak at the back.

However, the Turkish international was recently banned for unsporting behaviour for five games by the German football federation after spitting on one of his opponents.

Kabak later apologised for the incident and claimed he did not aim towards the opposition player, but it was not enough to convince the Bundesliga.

The Turkish international is still extremely young at just 20 years of age and has idolised Van Dijk from his time in Turkey.

The towering defender is definitely reminiscent of Van Dijk. Ozan Kabak has the same commanding aerial presence and the pace too. However, he needs to cut out his rash decision making at times.

In Ozan Kabak Liverpool will not be getting the finished article but rather a player with huge potential who could in the future become one of the best players in the world.

It will not be an immediate solution but more of a long term one, and Ozan Kabak could provide good cover in the meantime.
