Liverpool could make a huge move.

In the summer, Liverpool were embroiled in one of the longest sagas of the transfer window. The rumours and speculations about Thiago Alcantara‘s arrival stretched on endlessly. They simply ceased to stop and the Reds were relentless in their pursuit.

In the end the club’s supporters rejoiced.

Liverpool conquered and Jurgen Klopp had his man.

Thiago’s grin and his first appearance in the Reds’ colour remains an iconic moment in the club’s history.

It signalled a watershed moment in the club’s history. For years the Reds have not been able to make such a monumental signing.

What was significant was the fact that  Jurgen Klopp attracted one of the best players from one of the best teams in the world to Anfield. It was a statement of intent, the Reds have never had such a major pulling power over their rivals across Europe.

Thiago’s arrival has signalled a new era at Anfield and one the club will be hoping brings them even more titles in the future.

One obstacle which might stand in the way of Klopp’s pursuit is the Reds recent defensive frailties. With currently three centre-backs ruled out due to injury, Klopp is likely to strengthen in the department in January.

And it seems like the Reds could be making a carbon-copy transfer.

According to Football Insider via SB Nation, Liverpool are considering making a move for David Alaba in January.

The Bayern Munich defender is one of the best in his position. Just like Thiago he is a valued member of the German club and undoubtedly one of their best players.

If the Reds can prize David Alaba away from the Bavarian’s grasp it would be another significant transfer.

David Alaba would be an astute option to have as a centre-back but his versatility would also enable Jurgen Klopp to use the Austrian in various roles. Alaba can play as a full-back and as a holding midfielder too which would make a huge asset.

With his contract running out at Bayern Munich, the Reds could face an eerily similar situation when it comes to negotiating for David Alaba. Having conquered over Bayern Munich once, there is no reason why Michael Edwards can’t do it again.

Would David Alaba be a good signing?
