These are the top five Liverpool goal scorers.

Last minute scorchers, multiple hat-tricks, Anfield has a lot of classic goals scored in front of the Kop.

Over the last few years, we have seen some magnificent talents who have worn the Red jersey and represented the city on the football pitch. Honestly, picking five players was tough. Since the start of the Premier League era, there have been numerous strikers and attacking midfielders who have scored memorable goals that all have had huge consequences. (I found it necessary to mention, corner taken quickly!)

So, to help us narrow down, other than just prolific goals, we also accounted for the impact that they had at the club during their paying days at Liverpool.

However, for a fact even we know that in this list, there are a few names that have not made the cut. For example, Spanish sensation Fernando Torres who scored 65 league goals during his four years at Anfield and even Magician midfield maestro, Philippe Coutinho who lit up Anfield on more than one occasion before he broke hearts.

Others that those two, some other notable players who deserve a mention include Dirk Kuyt, Sadio Mane and Daniel Sturridge. All three scored over 50 goals for the Liverpool in the English Premier League.

So here goes, the top five in my opinion, in descending order include:

More from Rush The Kop

5) Luis Suarez, Uruguay (69 goals scored) (2011-2014)

The way he started his career at Liverpool was totally contrary to the way he ended it. In the start, he managed just 15 league goals during in the first 18 months of his contract.

However, there was a moment that he got comfortable with the speed and physicality of the game and then in the 2012/13 season, he scored 23 league goals before reaching his peak and bagging a 31 goal season in the 2013/14 campaign. He was the joint record holder for most goals scored in a single Premier League season despite having being banned for eight games in that season. His record was then broken by current Liverpool star, Mohamed Salah.

He had a natural ability of finding the net, a genius with an eye for goal from zero angles, the half way line or a brilliant solo dribble past multiple defenders.

Most Notable Goal: His finish from the halfway line against Norwich.

4) Mohamed Salah, Egypt (79 goals and counting) (2017 – present)

The sensational Egyptian forward hit the ground running since he joined Liverpool. He in fact has not stopped running. Since becoming a red, he has bagged two consecutive golden boot awards. He arrived from AS Roma in 2017, and scored 32 league goals in his first season with Liverpool.

Salah has been influential in helping Liverpool win the Champions League and the Premier League in 2019-20 season. He is on his way to attaining legendary status at the club given his contribution on the field.

Most Notable Goal: His goal against Chelsea in the Premier League from 25 yards out.

3) Michael Owen, England (118 goal scored) (1996-2004)

During his early days as a footballer for Liverpool, the Chester born striker was a goal machine. However, a staggering offer from Real Madrid saw him leave in 2005. Many fans were shocked at his decision, but somewhere they understood it.

However, when he ended up playing for arch rivals Manchester United is when fans were furious. He ended up tarnishing his reputation amongst the Anfield faithful. However, only from a football perspective, there is no denying that he was a top quality striker and a natural finisher with an eye for goal.

Most Notable Goals: His double against Arsenal in 2001.

2) Steven Gerrard, England (120 goals scored) (1998-2015)

The Liverpool legend spent a total of 17 years in the club’s first team. Hence, it is no surprise that the midfielder is right there at the top of the list. He has assumed almost every possible role on the football field in a Liverpool jersey.

He scored multiple stunning goals the 504 Premier League appearances that he made for the club. Considering the overall impact he has had on the team with the UCL win of 2005 and multiple other cup wins, he is right up there as one of the greatest players to ever run on the pitch for Liverpool football club. (Personally my favourite Liverpool player of all time as well.)

Most Notable Goal: His goal against AC Milan in 2005’s UCL final that sparked the comeback.

1) Robbie Fowler, England (128 goals scored) (1993-2001, 2006-2007)

Robbie Fowler probably makes it to the top of most lists of best Liverpool strikers. He was given the nickname of ‘God’ by the Kop. During his first spell as the main Reds striker, he went down as a legend. In that spell he scored 83 goals in four seasons.

Unfortunately, he had injuries and then a falling out with the management reduced which in-turn saw his match time reduce and eventually sold to Leeds. However, he did return for a second spell in the 2006 season. During this spell, he played for Rafa Benitez and accumulated before eventually leaving once again.’

Most Notable Goals: The five goals that he scored against Fulham.

These strikers really lit up Anfield with late goals, goals in major games against the biggest rivals and toughest teams. We shall leave you with one thought, if you had to choose your best out of these five, who would it be?
